The board of directors decided to form various committees and commissions to meet certain needs.


Athletes' Commission

The mission of the Athletes' Commission is to represent athletes and ensure that their voice is heard within the BOIC.

The Athletes' Commission has the following objectives :

  • researching questions related to the athletes and giving advice to the BOIC;
  • to represent the rights and interests of athletes and to make recommendations to this effect, in particular concerning the appointment of arbitrators to the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS);
  • to participate actively in initiatives and projects that protect and support athletes of integrity both on and off the field of competition;
  • to have and maintain the necessary contacts with other stakeholders within the Belgian elite sport environment, in collaboration with the BOIC;
  • to maintain contact with the BPC Athletes Commission, the IOC, the EOC and the WADA Athletes Commission.

The length of a term in office for the President, Vice-President and members is 4 years.

The Commission may not accept more than 2 athletes from the same sport and no more than 2/3 of the members may be of the same gender. Two of the members must have participated in the Olympic Winter Games.

Nomination and Remuneration Committee

This Committee's mission is to promote skills, expertise and diversity within the BOIC's bodies, while respecting the respective responsibilities of the various BOIC bodies and in accordance with the Statues and Internal Rules of the BOIC. The nomination committee promotes a succession plan for mandates and/or executive positions and reviews and determines the remuneration of BOIC executives.

Selection Committee

The Selection Committee proposes selections to the Board of Directors for the various multi-disciplinary competitions (Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, European Youth Olympic Festival, World Games, European Games, etc.).

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee assesses risks and tests the existence and effectiveness of internal control procedures and accounting systems. It examines the annual accounts as soon as they are closed and may question the BOIC's auditor and accounting department on this subject.

Ethics Commission 

The mission of the Ethics Commission is to ensure compliance with the ethical principles and values set out in the Olympic Charter. In particular, it ensures that the members of the Board of Directors and the BOIC's committees and commissions act in accordance with these principles and values. The ethics commission can be consulted on any subject with a (potential) ethical interest or from which a (potential) conflict of interest arises.

"Without officials, there would be no sport!" This commission represents the interests of officials, just as the athletes' committee does for athletes. There are many themes common to referees, judges, tournament directors and commissioners.

Belgian Olympians Association

The Belgian Olympians Association (BOA) organises activities for Belgian athletes who have taken part in the Olympic Games. The association was founded in 2003.

Gender Equity Commission

The Gender Equity Commission aims to promote gender equality in sport. It works to improve the gender balance in management positions, coaching opportunities, refereeing roles and in sport participation. It also supports the development of women within the Olympic Movement and encourages women's participation in sport.

Athletes' Entourage Commission

The Athletes' Entourage Commission advises the Board of Directors on issues and themes that can optimise, protect and support athletes and their performance. The aim of the Commission is to set priorities and propose initiatives that can be developed by the BOIC and its partners in elite sport.

Commission for Non-Olympic Federations

The Commission for Non-Olympic Federations (abbreviated CNOF) has as its main objective the promotion of non-olympic sports, providing support to federations for further professionalisation and sharing good practices to support athletes and cadres. With this approach, the commission will provide advice to the Board of the BOIC.
