Since January 2025, BOIC has been part of the European Erasmus+ project “Strengthening Response Mechanism for Safeguarding in European Sports” (SAFE HARBOUR).
This project is coordinated by the European Olympic Committees EU Office (EOC EU Office). The initiative aims to create a safer sports environment for everyone by strengthening procedures and operations related to safeguarding in European sport. BOIC will play an important role in aligning the European framework with the Belgian context. The project also includes a second Belgian partner: Thomas More University of Applied Sciences. Professor Tine Vertommen, who also serves as a consultant for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Safe Sport Unit, will contribute as an expert to the development of various tools.
SAFE HARBOUR is a 30-month initiative running from January 2025 to June 2027. It brings together 27 partners, including the IOC, 2 international federations, and 20 European National Olympic Committees. Within BOIC, Nicky Van Rossem (n.vanrossem@olympic.be), Athlete Pathway Manager, oversees this project. Nicky recently earned the IOC “Safeguarding Officer in Sport” certificate.
