Sport Vlaanderen implements the sports policy of the Flemish government. Its mission is to encourage as many people as possible to play sport, for as long and as qualitatively as possible.
Sport Vlaanderen's sports policy is aimed towards the elite athletes, combined teams or team sports that have the potential in the short, medium and long term to reach the finals and/or a podium finish at the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games, in both Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.
As the Flemish sports administration, Sport Vlaanderen is the point of contact for elite athletes and the best Flemish athletes. They oversee all matters relating to: spotting talent, high-performance sports schools, Be Gold projects, elite athletes taking part in the European and/or World Championships and Team Belgium at the Olympic Games.
For each Olympiad, a group of experts draws up an action plan for elite sport - named “Topsportactieplan” - with the aim of winning as many medals as possible at the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games.
