Vision

To show the image of a country that 'wins' and to share this feeling of success with everyone by significantly increasing the number of Belgian athletes that finish in the Top 8 at the Olympic Games.

Mission

  • To select Belgium's elite athletes and send them to the Olympic Games in optimal conditions to perform to the best of their abilities, whilst respecting the Olympic values.
  • To mobilise all of the country's active stakeholders in order to create a 'climate of high performance sport' in Belgium.
  • To support the sports federations that are members of the BOIC in their activities.
  • Base our operation and actions on the values of the Olympic Movement, whose representative in Belgium is the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee.

Additional details / Explanation

1. To select Belgium's elite athletes and send them, in optimal conditions, to the Olympic Games to perform to the best of their ability, in accordance with the Olympic values.

In compliance with the Olympic Charter, the BOIC is responsible for selecting Belgian athletes for the Olympic Games. The current benchmark for this are the international criteria.

What do we mean by 'sending athletes, in optimal conditions, to the Olympic Games to perform at their best'?

  • On operational matters:

The BOIC must ensure that the selected athletes are able to perform in optimal conditions at the Olympic Games as well as at the other international multidisciplinary competitions for which it is competent.

  • Preparing the athletes:

In order to maximise our athletes' results, excellent collaboration between the various stakeholders in elite sport is essential. The Olympic Platform, which regularly brings together the sports ministers and the President of the BOIC, along with meetings with the general and technical directors of the sports administrations (Adeps, Sport Vlaanderen, German-speaking Community) and the BOIC, are the ideal structures to fulfil this role.

  • Maximum performance:

Performance is assessed according to the following criteria:

  •  Number of Olympic medals
  • Number of Olympic diplomas (Top 8)
  • Number of 'Personal Best' awards

2. To mobilise all of the country's active stakeholders in order to create a 'climate of high performance sport' in Belgium.

It is only by creating a climate of high performance sport in our country that the athletes will be able to perform at their best. We are also convinced that the success of our athletes will strengthen the image of the regions and the country, as well as the pride and confidence of our fellow citizens. It is in particular by generating a positive and enthusiastic climate that the practice of sport is strengthened. Ultimately, this dynamic has the effect of improving the well-being and health of an entire population.

This vision can only be achieved by mobilising all of the country's active stakeholders to create a 'climate of high performance sport’ in Belgium.

3. To support the sports federations that are members of the BOIC in their activities.

The BOIC provides its members with services in the form of advice and/or training in areas where its expertise and/or that of some of its partners can bring added value.

In doing so, the BOIC takes into account the reality of Belgian sport. The services provided to the federations are part of a wider collaboration with the sports administrations, as well as with partners such as the Association Interfédérale du Sport Francophone (AISF) and the Vlaamse Sportfederatie (VSF). This collaboration is based on mutual understanding and respect for the various parties involved.

Independently of the support granted for elite sport, the BOIC can provide financial support to sports federations that introduce a project or that inform us of initiatives linked to their obligations at the international level.

4. To base our operation and actions on the values of the Olympic Movement, whose representative in Belgium is the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee.

The Olympic values form the basis of the BOIC's action. They play a central role at all levels of operation.

The aim of the Olympic Movement is to help build a peaceful and better world by educating young people through sport practised without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which demands mutual understanding, a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. Like the 205 other National Olympic Committees, the BOIC translates this vision into all the activities it organises.
